CHARACTERISTICS OF EUPHEMIZATION IN THE MODERN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The paper contains a comprehensive analysis of the characteristic features of euphemization in modern English. Such notions as ‘periphrasis’ and ‘euphemism’ are differentiated and their specific linguistic features are stated. Much attention is given to the study of the process of euphemism dynamics and the component expansion of modern English euphemisms. Of special interest is an elaborate analysis of modern English contextual euphemisms. With the help of the examples given in the article the author proves that in the modern world the process of euphemization constitutes the basis of political correctness.References
