The article deals with the evolution of the praetorian cohorts in to the Imperial Guard. According to some researchers Praetorian Guard, which was created by Octavian Augustus, led back to the praetorian cohorts during the Civil War, but its precursors had actually existed much earlier. The author’s opinion, August’s activities can not be called revolutionary, as the number of modern scholars does it. In case of the creation of Guard units, like many other enterprises as well, the activity in August was to adapt the institutions of the republican period.References
