INTERPRETER SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES IN REMOTE INTERPRETING

Abstract

Abstract: The article studies the peculiarities of remote interpreting and revisits interpreter competences with a focus on new skills needed for virtual interpreting as compared to «in presence» interpreting. With virtual interpreting going mainstream in the 2020s the growth of virtual interpreting technologies (video conferencing platforms, RSI-services, on-demand remote interpreting devices) has been unstoppable, and the article offers a brief survey of the remote interpreting space stressing out the need for further investigation of this field. The problems raised in the article are of great practical importance for interpreters, scholars and teachers of translation and interpretation.
