Abstract: The article deals with the functioning of the cognitive mechanism of analogy in the process of word creation. The author describes the existing points of view on the role of analogy in word formation in modern English. Using the nonce words from G. Orwell's novel "1984", the author dwells upon the role of analogy in the process of the author's individual word creation.
