Abstract

Abstract: The article discusses the role of punctuation in the transmission of the rhythmic and melodic pattern of speech, provides an overview of the fundamental theoretical approaches to the study of punctuation and intonation, analyzes examples of the influence of prosody on the punctuation of a sentence using the material of modern English fiction.
