Abstract

Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to investigate how Russian translators of fiction could deal with quasirealia. This lexis often presents a significant challenge in translation, and various solutions have been developed by translators to bridge lexical gaps. Translation scholars, in turn, seek to scrutinize and classify these solutions in a variety of texts and genres. However, very few attempts have been made to analyze this sort of data qualitatively. Based on the research conducted, it may be concluded that the translation of quasirealia is a creative process requiring the translator to have the highest level of competence. In order to preserve both the meaning and the color of realia it is necessary to consider carefully the realia itself and its role in the given context as well as the type of the text and the expected readership.
