THE PECULIARITIES OF THE TRANSLATION OF THE PERIPHRASIS IN ENGLISH PROSE FICTION INTO RUSSIAN: A CASE STUDY ON THE WORKS OF STEPHEN KING

Abstract

Abstract: The research paper deals with the analysis and interpretation of various types of periphrases in English prose fiction as well as with their functioning. The paper further describes the peculiarities of their translation into Russian. The analysis reveals that a periphrasis is translated taking into account its semantic, structural and functional characteristics. Thus, the paper focuses on the different translation strategies when translating logical and figurative, traditional and authorial periphrases. Also, when translating it is necessary to take into account its part of speech and the peculiarities of its structure. Substantive and verbal periphrases are translated by grammatical correspondences of different types.
