Abstract

This article examines the role of authentic texts as a means of developing sociocultural competence in the teaching of Russian as a foreign language. Based on an analysis of the didactic potential of various types of authentic materials, the study substantiates their significance for fostering learners’ abilities to interpret cultural realities, perceive native speakers’ communicative behavior adequately, and understand the norms of intercultural interaction. The article presents findings from observations of how foreign students perceive and process authentic texts, identifies typical challenges they face, and proposes methodological solutions aimed at overcoming these difficulties.
