Abstract

The article explores the problem of modelling the process of teaching meaningful reading in a foreign language. J.T. Guthrie’s reading engagement model is described and elaborated by a classification of techniques. It offers techniques aimed at developing skills of analysis and synthesis, structural parts identification, holistic comprehension, assumption, fact evaluation, interpretation. The model can be used as a means to implement the process of teaching meaningful reading in a foreign language class.
